With Baby-Steps Into The Future

What does that headline mean exactly? "Are we pregnant"?

Nope, sorry to disappoint some people that I know are just waiting for such an announcement.  ;-)

What I am talking about is robotics. You know, the kind you can see in "I, Robot", or in old cartoons and science-fiction flicks. Unfortunately, we are not nearly at a point where we have robots around the house that help us with mundane tasks. Nevertheless, every single improvement in robotics gets me excited. (I had a really hard time resisting the urge to buy Aibo, but finally common sense got the better of me after all...). So long story short, check out this article about Nuvo.

Houston .NET User Group Presentation

Tomorrow night (July 14th), I will be speaking at the Houston .NET User Group (http://www.hdnug.org). The topic is "Advanced User Interface Design". The talk is designed for .NET developers, but it is really a relatively generic talk about UI design. (Note: Later this fall, I will be doing an Avalon session there, which is somewhat related to this talk...). As always, the meeting is at the local Microsoft offices.

Ink Support in Avalon

Avalon and Ink make a great pair, since many of the methodologies in both paradigms are very similar (vector graphics and all).

Shawn Van Ness has now provided some details on how ink will be supported in Avalon.

The basic idea is that ink objects are just regular Avalon objects. For instance, one can put an ink input area on an Avalon window like so:

<StackPanel>
   <InkCanvas Background="White" />
</StackPanel>

Pretty cool! Check it out...

Technorati

Here's a pretty cool site: www.Technorati.com. It monitors blogs and allows to search for specific terms. What is cool is that you can create RSS Feeds based on those search terms. So if you want to monitor who blogs about a certain technology, or event, or about yourself or your company, simply put a certain search term on your watchlist, and then subscribe to your watchlist's RSS Feed. Pretty cool!

The new CoDe Magazine (July/August) is now online

Oops, I almost missed it: The latest issue of CoDe Magazine is now available online (for those of you who never read the bios <s>: I am the owner and publisher of this magazine...)! Just visit the web site, heck out some articles, and let us know what you think by rating some of them.

Also, my most recent Publisher's Point eColumn has just gone online: It's called "Where's Your Logic?", and people seem to like it, judging by the ratings. This eColumn is generally published as an email newsletter. If you are interested in getting it on a regular basis, make sure to sign up!
